Desk

The best working music for me is Boards of Canada. Which music works for you?

soundtrack: metric – grow up and blow away (thanks K!)
reading: Mitch Alborn - The five people you meet in Heaven
There is a serious amount of work to get through. Three big assignments and a bunch of smaller ones. I am starting to think of this as a six month work-camp. Yet that is okay, what else is there to do here? This reminds me of my first year of studying after high school. I lived in a small town away from my family and there was nothing but the schoolwork and going home for weekends. It’s the same now, minus the weekends.
There is clarity in this kind of thing, being away from the usual distractions, life. Working constantly produces a serious flow of ideas. I feel better about my work than in years. I can become a good designer. It’s all down to working hard. Why did I forget that?
Werkplaats Typografie would be a great place to study for masters, only they take on about five people a year… I want this stunning book of their work. (Got to browse it yesterday, some of the teachers studied there)

soundtrack: Bloc Party – Ion Square (the fifth song I got in the music assignment, do you know the poem?)
Monday was the first real rainy day. Umbrellas stand no chance. On wednesday there are no lessons. It’s become a laundry day, a homework day, doing things around the house -day. Thursday means it’s almost weekend, but this Friday afternoon the lettering course finally starts… so not a short day anymore. Life is very structured and there isn’t enough time for wandering. I still haven’t been to the beach…
Homesickness is easing. Days fall into rhytm and start flying by quickly. There is spring in the air some days. Like expected I mostly miss my best friend. I think you are lucky if you meet one soulmate in your life. Hopefully two..
