mail!
Look at the cute envelope covering the gocco print!

Rainy day made better by beautiful mail. I’ve also got a stack of dutch magazines to read (the perfect way to study the language).

The cold is gone, I have a craving for yoga classes and fresh air. I feel like I am coming out of winter hibernation, shedding skin, thinking new things. Most days I wake up before the alarm clock, maybe it is possible to store sleep after all…

A couple of days school too, this week. Yesterday we visited:

origami

Yep, my shoes are featured in a book and I can finally tell you all about it, since Custom Kicks is now in publication and available for pre-order.

Last summer kim & matthijs of dutch makimaki asked me to make something for their forthcoming book on customized shoes. I wanted to work with collagĂ©, so I made a pair of “Origami Converse.” They are not meant to be wearable, more like shoe art, but held up suprisingly well in the photo shoot! Can’t wait to see the actual book and all the other shoes in it; over 150 artists, designers and illustrators were invited to participate. It’s due out in May and published by Laurence King Publishing. There will also be a book launch party (in Amsterdam, in June) and maybe even a gallery show of the shoes. Stay tuned.

In other news, I have a terrible cold. It might even be a flu, judging from the constant fever. I’ve been trying to get as much work done as possible, because I have a big deadline hanging over my head. I know one shouldn’t work when sick, but sometimes there’s is nothing to do about it. But I try to rest too…

p.s. My friends are working on wonderful new projects. Sia has opened a shop (I ordered the circus gocco-print). Silvia, who is taking steps to become fully self-employed as a freelance writer and constantly coming up with new ideas how to make it happen, interviewed me for her new green blog.

holiday
drawn on christmas holiday (the date should be 10.1.)

Wishing there was nothing I needed to do, just curl up under a blanket with a book… I’ve been working twelve hour days lately, so not much blogging either. March should be easier, though.

Today it felt like the first spring day, but no camera with me. More sunny days, please!

february grey skyfebruary whitefebruary snowfebruary ground

it’s so grey in Helsinki.

I hope it’s spring soon so I can start riding my bike everywhere and not get angry at trams behind their schedule every morning. Need to get the bike fixed first though; It used to be my mother’s, it’s about 30 years old and has the original tires (Ever mentioned how I like old things?). Well, I’ve decided to get new tires.

Last night I dreamt of drawing with charcoal. Today I’ve been admiring this book (via Karin).

Hurt

Got diagnosed.
Prescription for my inflamed shoulder muscles.

I think my body is trying to tell me something. Like: Stay away from the computer. Go to yoga. You are not really that busy, you are just lazy. Or maybe that’s just the painkillers talking.
